The Internet Archive made huge waves at the beginning of 2015 when they made countless DOS games playable online via emulator, so it’s unsurprising that they’re extending their reach to include Windows programs from the early ‘90s, too.

In October of 2015, 100 million devices had already upgraded to Windows 10 Microsoft’s goal is to have that figure reach 1 billion within the next two to three years. Obviously Microsoft was doing something right Windows has remained one of the foremost operating systems as the years and decades have ticked by. The very first version of Microsoft Windows was released in 1985 (which means that the operating system and I have literally grown up together) however, it wasn’t until Windows 3.0 and Windows 3.1., released in 19 respectively, that the operating system began actually behaving like an operating system. Kind of amazing to think that the programs that used to require our computers’ entire processing power to run only need a browser and an emulator now, isn’t it?
Sometimes, though, we still miss the good old days - which is why I’m so thrilled that, thanks to the Internet Archive, we now have access to hundreds of Windows 3.1 programs you probably forgot about.
